Germany will not transfer Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. The Bundestag rejected the CDU/CSU’s request on this matter. Olaf Scholz decided at the beginning of October last year that Ukraine would not be supplied with these weapons “for now” and has still not changed his mind on this matter. Just a few days ago, the German Chancellor criticized EU countries for “insufficient” arms supplies to Ukraine and called for increased military support.

During the debate on the supply of Taurus vehicles to Ukraine , the Bundestag did not agree to the request of the CDU and CSU. On Wednesday evening, the motion of the Christian Democrats’ parliamentary group was rejected by the majority of parliamentarians. Even MPs from the Greens and FDP, who were critical of the chancellor’s position, did not oppose the head of government during the vote.
What about Tauruses for Ukraine? The CDU/CSU motion was rejected
As CDU and CSU politicians justified their request, “Ukraine lacks the equipment necessary to effectively oppose Russian aggression.”
– We cannot afford to answer to history for having acted incorrectly and insufficiently at a crucial moment – appealed during the debate in the Bundestag, the spokesman for the Christian Democrats for defense policy, Florian Hahn (CSU).
Deliveries of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. “We made it clear”
Taurus is one of the most modern missiles of the German Air Force. It is able to destroy targets from great heights and distances.
The German Chancellor’s decision not to supply these weapons to Ukraine “for now” was made in October last year.
– Now there will be no deliveries of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. In my opinion, the Federal Government and the German Chancellor have made this clear. We also informed the government of Ukraine about this decision , in detail . For now, this is all I can say publicly on this occasion, said German ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger at the time. In this way, he confirmed earlier reports about the suspension of deliveries of long-range missiles requested by the authorities in Kiev.
The decision of German politicians had already caused a huge stir among Ukrainian politicians and the local media.
Olaf Scholz on helping Ukraine. He criticized EU countries
In turn, just last week, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized EU countries for “insufficient” arms supplies to Ukraine and called for increased military support.
– No matter how big Germany’s support is, it will not be sufficient in the long run to ensure Ukraine’s security – he said during a press conference in Berlin. He also assured then that Germany would support Ukraine “as long as necessary.”
